Natasja (Tash) Barnard embarked on a career in Pilate after graduating with honors in the Cecchetti Ballet and IDTA Modern Dance methods in 2000. She qualified as a BASI Instructor in 2001, under Rael’s direction.

For six years, Tash experienced the power of BASI worldwide, working in London, Dubai, Salzburg (Austria) and, most recently, Hong Kong, before returning to her home country, South Africa. She became a member of the BASI Faculty while in Hong Kong.

Tash works closely with her husband, Andre, who is a Chiropractor. They live in Ballito, Kwa Zulu Natal, where she runs her private studio named Absolute Pilates.

Jeanine Roode

Jeanine began her Pilates-journey as a client at the Absolute Pilates studio in Ballito. Leading a very active lifestyle of surfing, mountain biking, running and swimming, she quickly developed a passion and respect for Pilates. Jeanine therefore decided to complete the BASI Mat course when the opportunity arose in November 2009. This served to further fuel her passion and within months Jeanine resolved to leave her career as an attorney in order to venture into fulltime Pilates instruction. Having completed the Comprehensive Teacher Training Course, Jeanine now instructs at Absolute Pilates and is especially interested in enhancing her clients’ respective athletic performances through Pilates.

I have always been intrigued by the ways in which the body moves, and the space in which we move. The way a specific culture sits at the dinner table, or the type of shoes that moves them to their next place, or the food that culture consumes throughout the day giving them energy to continue, is very unique to each area of the world and within each home. I have been blessed with the opportunity to explore the traditions and lifestyles of South Africa for a few months.

I was born and raised in Ballito with a passion for a healthy lifestyle on the coast. After completing my degree in Sport Science in Stellenbosch, I decided to further my studies by completing my honors degree in Biokinetics at the University of Zululand under one of the founders of Biokinetics, Professor Coetzee.

Having spent a year’s internship with Jimmy Wright and the Sharks Rugby team, I gained valuable experience in high performance. This experience has held me to believe that there is a real synergy between Biokinetics and Pilates.

Together both can fundamentally improve one’s quality of life and well being.
